Battery Backups

Having a battery backup protects your computer and other equipment from electrical damage from power surges, power interruptions, and cleans your power. Of course, a battery backup will keep you equipment operational when the power is out so you can continue your operations or safely power down your equipment and avoid data loss.

Uninterruptable Power Supply

What is an uninterruptable power supply? Also known as a UPS, it is similar to a power strip but larger because it has a battery inside. There are many different options and sizes available, ranging from what type of outlet you are plugging it into (amps), how long you want to provide run time for your equipment, and even the ability to manage it over the network. A good UPS brand will offer an equipment warranty up to a certain dollar amount, usually in the tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars, to cover any damages to hardware as well as data loss and interruptions to your business if you would lose equipment. These brands are reputable and stand by their product. A UPS typically has two sets of plugs: battery backup and a surge protection only set. The surge protection only plugs will only protect against power surges but will not provide battery power.

Why you should have a UPS

If you have computer equipment, lab equipment, sensitive electronics that require clean power, or even life sustaining equipment such as oxygen or filtration for your pet fish tank – a UPS is right for you. This device will plug into your outlet and sits on the floor, on a shelf or mounted in a network equipment rack and has outlets you plug your devices into directly. In other words, a UPS sits between your devices and your wall outlet.
