Website Hosting
Learn about what website hosting is and why you need it, and how to avoid price traps that lock you into contracts.
What is website hosting?
Website hosting, known as web hosting, is when you pay a company to keep your website on their server and make it accessible over the web. Without this, your website is not reachable on the web. Your website needs to exists somewhere on a running computer connected to the internet if you want people to visit your website.
Beware of web host price traps
Popular companies you may have heard of include Bluehost, Wix, Namecheap, Squarespace and GoDaddy. Unfortunately, companies like these I call ‘consumer grade’ because they are names you are familiar with through their advertising efforts offering competitive initial pricing for a fixed term. That sounds great, but after the term is up the price can triple or even quadruple! You may have a termination fee as well.
Unfortunately there’s another downfall to using these companies – you will not get good performance, certainly not the advertised speeds, without spending a very high amount of money on a dedicated or private server.
Recommended web hosting
We have partnered with A2 hosting to bring you blazing fast, secure and affordable webhosting. This commercial grade service is the secret behind big companies with large websites that still load crazy fast. Test your own website, and ours (hosted on A2) with a free website speed test. You’ll be amazed at how fast your site loads – and fast load times help drive a higher Google SEO score so you are shown to more people. A slow website won’t rank high in search results, and if visitors are waiting on your page, the statistics show after 7 seconds they will give up and try another site. That’s lost business!
